Summarizer turns links into clear summaries for YouTube videos, websites, PDFs, and podcast RSS feeds. It also supports DOCX and PowerPoint files, and you can start from a right-click menu or from Home → Summarize in Utter. Before first use, complete the one-time setup in the next section.

Right-Click Link

Right-click any link.

Open Services

Choose Services.

Run Summarizer

Click Summarize with Utter.
What to expect: Utter opens and starts summarizing the link.

Set Up Right-Click Once

Open System Settings

Click Apple menu → System Settings.

Open Keyboard Shortcuts

Click Keyboard, then click Keyboard Shortcuts….

Open Text

In the shortcut list, click Text.

Turn On the Service

Scroll down and turn on Summarize with Utter.
If that option is missing: Quit and reopen Utter, then check System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts… → Text again.

Summarize in Utter (In-App)

Open Summarize

In Home, click Summarize.

Paste Link

Paste your URL into Paste a link.

Choose Episode (If Needed)

If the link is a podcast feed, select an episode.

Start Summary

Click Summarize.

Supported Sources

  • PowerPoint files

Tune Summarizer Options

Open Options

In the summarizer sheet, click Options….

Set Summary Length

Pick your preferred summary detail level.

Set Panel Position

Choose where the summary panel appears.

Optional Advanced Settings

Pick custom AI/voice models or add a custom system prompt.

Ask Follow-Up Questions

After the summary appears, use Ask about this page to ask questions based on the summary and transcript.

If It Fails

  1. Make sure the URL is publicly accessible.
  2. If Summarize with Utter is missing on right-click, confirm it is enabled in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts… → Text.
  3. Quit and reopen Utter, then try again.
  4. If needed, use Home → Summarize and paste the link directly.
  5. Open Options… and verify model settings if you use custom models.
